Is there anyone who's still waiting for a response from CalArts? I live a little over 2 hours away from CalArts and haven't heard anything from them. If I don't receive any mail by friday, I'm going to call them and find out if there's a letter floating out there for me.

i live an hour away and i have had no response. i took a look at last years thread and noticed the last person to recieve it was in valencia and the first was overseas. if this means anything i think its that people who live farther away need more time to plan to come the acceptance event since they need some mode of long distance transportation, while for those who live close can just arrange transportation fairly easily. probably not right but its a possibility ive gone over instead of the longer it takes the less likely you are to recieve an acceptance letter

Yeah, I was thinking today as I glanced at the thread about attending the acceptance event that if I'm accepted on the last day of this month that I'd still be able to attend. It would be an easy day-trip for me. :) And I knew that you were closer to CalArts then me and I thought you were already accepted, but I didn't want to dig through this thread to make sure.

On the other hand, my sister last year received hers on the 16th, so it could be that they're just sending them out in random order.

Ooooooooorrr, the people getting their letters last are the ones the staff took the most time deliberating on whether to accept, meaning we're the ones that are on the edge between rejection and acceptance.

I do recall someone saying in this thread that all deliberations are pretty much done though.

I wouldn't mind being one of the ones who is still being decided on. I'm disappointed pretty much every day when there's no news from CalArts, but at least it isn't a rejection letter.

piper wrote:I think in terms of MFA - Calarts, UCLA, USC are high on the list with Calarts probably being the most prestigious of the three. Calarts is geared more towards using new/unique techniques/being more experimental (hence the name). UCLA is more 2D traditional. And USC is more digital, 3D. I think it's just a matter of figuring out which program best suites me. Right now, UCLA is a notch up.

Thanks for your thoughts, piper. I am likely to produce slightly unorthodox films that are grounded in traditional animation--which makes me think Cal Arts might be right for me. I have to continue doing my research.

You're right though: all three programs seem good in each of their own ways... It makes my decision that much harder.

My girlfriend went to the office the other day to ask about acceptance letters (I'm a ringling grad hoping to get in; she's at CA for her first BFA)

The reason the letters are so random is that when the department decides on who they want, they literally dump the accepted portfolios in to a giant bin to give to the admissions office. Then it's up to admissions to take each one, copy down the person's info and prepare an acceptance letter. This is why the letters are so random--they're just pulling them off the top of the pile.

The reason the letters come either really quick or very late is because if another department finishes their acceptances, those get dumped in to the SAME bin, so you portfolio might suddenly be at the bottom of a huge pile even though yours was first to be reviewed.

As for the phone calls, I have no idea. Admissions says it's a big no-no for anyone to call you directly like that, which is probably why not everyone is getting them.

Psypro and Yoshic are now my brothers-in-arms because I just received my rejection letter today.

R.I.P. Were-Salamander. When next we meet him he will be a revenant hailed from the other side, a spirit of fury in pursuit of Fall '10.

There will not be a second rejection letter.

I'm sooooo sorry Were-Salamander!!!! I don't know my fate yet, but it isn't looking too good, it's almost the end of the month. If I don't find out this week it's probably going to be a rejection or a wait list.

What will your plans be for next year?
