Hey everyone,

I too got my acceptance letter for Calarts Character animation program March 10th, it was dated March 4th.

I can relate to the waiting, last year I didn't get an envelope till the middle of April notifying me of placement on the wait list (which didn't really mean much.) To all those that didn't get in, stay positive. I recommend going up to calarts and getting the notes on your portfolio when you can. It really helped me. Also, if you are in Southern California.. going to the sunday life drawing classes with Corny Cole, or classes at the Animation Union are an excellent way to meet people that work in the industry, and Calarts faculty... but you guys have probably heard all that.

I look forward to meeting some of you in April.

p.s. - puddle, I really relate to your story.. I too am 27.. starting school all over again. I got a degree in a totally unrelated field, and quit everything to pursue this dream. I think you'll find a lot of applicants are older than you think, and it seems like folks get rejected once or twice before they get accepted. That's what I've read anyway. Good luck!

Squish-

I am very happy for you- that is wonderful news and I wish you all the best.

And I am pretty sure that I am NOT the oldest applying, though sometimes, it feels like it. The youth today has so much talent and potential! I only hope that I don't have to "waste" ANOTHER year if I get rejected again... I don't know if I could go through this again... I have 8 months to do whatever it takes to dig my way in... I am determined.

Again- GOOD LUCK!

geeze...my parents gave me the old one two with "im sorry tyler...but you've been accepted".

my friend TIM who is a lurker on the forum also got accepted.

This website and the character animation program have already pushed my artwork so much. having the option of attending next year is just the icing on top of the metaphorical art cake.

I also uploaded most of my portfolio to http://tylerdavidchen.blogspot.com[/url]

My portfolio

Postby squishpink » Fri Mar 13, 2009 12:19 am

I copied most of my portfolio before I sent it off to Calarts (in the event I was rejected or put on the wait list again.) I did it on a blueprint copier ( kinkos is expensive) so a lot of the drawings are 40% smaller than they were originally and the half tone is washed out, but anyway: here is my portfolio and sketchbook. All the colors on my sketchbook watercolors are off, but it was better than nothing! I also included an animal life drawing sketchbook, but seeing as calarts is the only school in the area for animation I didn't copy it.

I also included a video that my friends and I did for the Postal Service (they hated it and didn't use it:)

I was sort of the art director on it. Designed the costumes and buildings.. and yeah, that's me.. and my HORRIBLE acting. Maybe I can take some classes on that..

P.S. - I'm Sierra by the way.. nice to meet you.
