Thanks again guys. Just gotta keep at it.
@ Mary ...Almost done editing the Gorey film. I’ll definitely post it on AB once it’s finished :)
Sorry to hear you didn’t make it either Mia. The wait they put us through was terrible, but at least it’s one less thing we have to worry about.
I’m holding out some hope for the rest of you guys. We can’t all be goners, right? lol
Sweet, I'll look for it. For real we can't all be done for right? But who knows how many people outside of AB applied and what they had to offer...who friggin knows. :P Bleh. One night for wallowing-then it's back to the drawing board so to speak...

Aaaaand another one bites the dust. I didn't get in either. :(
Oh no, I'm sorry Mary. Gosh, it makes me wonder why they didn't tell us we were rejected back in February. It would have made the last few weeks a bit easier to digest.
Thanks Matt. Seriously, if I could have known in february...my insides might not be so twisted...alas. Just another day in the world of adulthood where every dream you've ever had is stepped on time and time again. The karma wheel has to come around at some point. Just gotta keep stepping it up! because I'm on a serious kick, I'm sticking with my girl Fiona Apple. "If there was a better way to go it would find me. I just wake up the road rolls out behind me. Be kind to me, or treat me mean. I'll make the most of it-I'm an extraordinary machine"

Thanks Jamie. That means a lot. We all have to find our own path. Full of the cheesy quotes right now, and I'm not sure who to quote it to, but I once heard "She is still writing her map as she drives" I like that.
I was hoping at least you would make it, sorry to hear otherwise. Surely Denver will bring new opportunities.

Thanks Federico :) And surely for you too at Sheridan. The universe is full of possibilities! :P
Wow, so we all got rejected. I knew the ship was sinking when we hadn't heard anything for weeks, but I thought at least one or two of us would make it to a life boat :( I'll definitely be calling in May to get those notes.
This week shall be remembered in Animated Buzz history as the Easter Week Massacre lol

LOL. Twas a bit of a massacre :P
Yeah, most def calling for notes in May. That's what they said right-wait until May? But if some of the first batch already got their portfolios back...what if we wait until May and they've already sent it back? Blergenflergin. Blech.

Check your status now. Mine finally changed. I didn't get in.
I don't even know what to say. Very mixed feelings at the moment. Disappointed in Calarts. Definitely walking away a bit jaded.
Looks like I'll be bringing stop motion to Ringling. I think I might take the year off. Finish my Oz fim. See what happens.
I was so sure I was going to get in. There's the wrench in my plans.

the system is fuckin broke

If Libby were still there, I'd probably call after the holidays. Since there's a new head of film/video, I'll probably wait 'til after May. As for notes, I was told they're left on your file. When I called last year, I had no notes. However, Libby was nice enough to review my portfolio and give me some feedback. This year, I hope the review commitee left something on my file.
@ Hannah ... haha :) thanks
awww, I'm so sorry to hear that none of you made it. You're all so stinkin' talented! I can't believe they made you wait almost a month after the rest of us heard just to turn you down. That's insane! (there's always more going on than what we see, so I'm not going to get all up in arms, but that's pretty frustrating)
@Matt, I'm in the same boat. I've been rejected twice. You're work is amazing. As other people have said, Calarts isn't the only option, but if you've evaluated the other options and ruled them out, keep trying and do whatever you have to do to get where you want to be (as long as you're not compromising your artistic integrity.) If you got into ringling, did you consider going there and trying for Calarts again next year?

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the support. So far, Calarts is the only art school that keeps rejecting me and I'm stubborn enough to keep re-applying. :)
I know I have other options, but they're very limited if I want to continue to study stop motion.
Matthew, have you ever looked into the Kansas City Art Institute Animation Program? They focus on all aspects of animation. I've seen some great work from there.
In 2009/2010 I believe a stop motion film from KCAI students won a student Academy Award. It was called "Dried Up"
Just search youtube 'Dried Up KCAI' if you are interested :D
I loved it!
Good luck!

Actually I am currently a student at this school getting a BFA in animation. The first year we focus on 2D, the second year it's 3D and then for senior year you can do anything and many students do a stop motion film. Our head, Doug Hudson, does a lot of independent studies with students on making their own stop motion film. Kansas City is growing in the animation world and with the Student Academy Award win that the stop motion "Dried Up" received, it opened a lot of great opportunities for stop motion. We have a stop motion studio in our school and a huge 10foot by 10foot green screen room, which you can rent for a few hours or a day if needed. Next year we are getting more rooms and we are turning the stop motion room into a pretty large studio. I know it's not CalArts EA program, but it has a lot of great support from the faculty and it is a small school so it there is a small student to teacher ratio. I think it’s about 6-8 students for 1 teacher. Plus Kansas City is all about the arts and people are so friendly. Plus KCAI is not the chain of Ai Tech schools. It’s like CalArts and the Chicago Institute, it is its own, private 4 year school. So you actually get a BFA not a tech degree.
Here is the URL to the film "Dried Up"- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdCUvFXQzSk
And this is Eva who is a current Senior and is working on a stop motion- http://nauticalapsarafilm.wordpress.com/
I do want to go to CalArts for my MFA in EA but for now I'm getting my BFA here because I wanted to have connections mid-way to CA, and I wanted to get off the east coast.
