You should pick up "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain". It's one of the most popular drawing books ever. The 2012 edition is like 12 bucks on Amazon, but if you're not able to spend that much, the first edition that was originally released in 1989 could be bought for 12 cents.
I actually checked it out today and the "Before" images in that book reminded me a lot of your current work.
