I don't know how much of a help I would be as I'm just starting my first year of Calarts, but I'll give you my thoughts. I think the pieces you have up are good examples of supplemental work for your portfolio. Your cartooning style is definitely different and I find your coloring is pretty interesting an fresh. The sheets you did on the different character expressions would certainly show them you are aware and actively practicing conveying character through emotion. However, they do have a distinct style of iconic or "mock" expressions that are reminiscent of eastern cartoons, it might be good to branch out and study expressions from photos or life to show you aren't relying too heavily on them. But most important are the life drawings and sketchbook and I've heard that this is really an important factor in the portfolio. Unfortunately since you don't have any up yet, I can't judge that yet, but I would recommend keeping a sketchbook and drawing from life as much a...    less

Sometimes more drawing isn't the answer, but looking at an artist you admire or who inspires you can reinvigorate the creative muscles in your head. And maybe even a little of their genius will rub off on you? That's what I like to think :P.Aside from the helpful suggestions the other posters gave you, have you tried changing your medium? Maybe if you draw with pencil a lot switch to a pen, or start to paint. A different mindset can do wonders for an art block where one feels the most "stale." You could even go out for a walk, enjoy the world around you, the sights and the sounds, no drawing, just pure observation.  less

Brandon Wu Um, I've been mostly doing commissions work, but I'm leaving the the entire month of August to try to learn some animation before going into Calarts, not enough time and so much to see!

Shanti Rittgers sweet plans! Are you taking you class at the animation collective? Also, are you going to e attending this year's ctnxpo in Burbank? It happens in November; I think it would be of great relevance to your interests!

Um, 2/16 so apparently I got it 4 days ago without realizing. It's a bit bad that they sent it to me cause Ill have to fax the form to my mom because I don't have 500 dollars on me to just send in the mail haha. And I'll probably keep them it's just an urge to drop my liberals where I have to read books in ye olde english that makes my head hurt just looking at them.
