hello!
i've recently returned from a visit to calarts, and i had the great opportunity of speaking one-on-one with the film/video(& character animation) counselor. he gave me a lot of helpful tips, so i'll relay as much as i can remember to you:
- life drawings, life drawings, life drawings. i see that you have a few already, and i think they're great, but i would suggest adding some more (the minimum requirement for life drawings is 15)
- random observational drawings. you also have some of these, the mall drawings, and i think adding a page or two more would really benefit you. try looking for people that have interesting faces, hats, glasses, bears, et cetera.
- range. see what you can do when you draw in charcoal, colored pencil, pens, indian ink, et cetera. also see what you can do with perspective!
- shading. i would like to see more of this in your portfolio. calarts looks for colors/color theory and contrast. throw some in there!
- rough, messy, scribbly sketches. they really like that (though not too many, maybe a page or two). they're interested in seeing your process of making art.
- finished pieces. they have to be the best they can be! do some landscapes, colored and textured animals from the zoo or museum, and whatever resources you have available.
i hope some of that helps you! break a leg with your application (:
