You have some good gesture drawings and calarts likes that a lot. If you're asking what calarts is looking for, it's kinda like a combination of all of the above you mentioned. The most basic requirement in your portfolio is the ability to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of human anatomy and if you're good with that, you can further explore the primal style in your portfolio. Some of the past accepted portfolios have really extreme caricatures of models in them but the drawings are stylistically unique to the artist who drew them so you'll have to find your own voice in your drawings. A distinctive style is what sets you apart from the rest of the applicants. Oh and btw if you wanna go for more dynamic poses, I'd say go for it. I think dynamic poses are usually more fun and easier to draw since the line of action is usually more apparent and they have a better and more appealing readability. Good luck!!  less

Hi! I think the stuff you have on here are great! Hey Dream, I had the same issue last year when applying to CalArts. What you can do now is just give them a call as soon as possible and do not wait. At the mean time, get your high school transcripts and scan them so you can send them a digital copy. I would suggest you call them right away and DO NOT WAIT ! Gd luck !

Hey Lucas, it's not too late to start now. I didn't start working on my life drawing portfolio till the beginning of September. You'll have till December but manage your time well. 4 months is long but it'll be gone before you know it, and no you're not in trouble, just keep going ! Btw you can call me Yon and no worries, Good luck !! :)

Hey Giovanni, Thanks for commending my work ! I'm 23 this year and I'm a freshman at CalArts, but there are a lot of talented students in my class who just got right out of high school and got in here because they have really strong portfolio. So my answer to your question is no, it doesn't matter. A good artist is a good artist and nobody can deny that. It doesn't matter how old you are really, just keep working hard and look at all the accepted student's portfolio. This might sound crazy, but try to TOP all of them. It's not the only way to get accepted, but it's one way to push yourself, and to get into CalArts, you need to work really hard. Don't let that misconception get in your way !!

Hey Lucas ! Welcome to Animatedbuzz !! There are usually 2 deadlines, one in December and the other in January. I'm not sure where you got the third deadline but yeah you'll have to turn in everything you mentioned up there. Once you get accepted, you'll get more emails guiding you all the way to the final step, and don't worry about asking anything at all. It's what this forum is made for ! Hope to see your works up here soon ! Good luck applying ! :)
