Hey Landon! I had a similar concern when I wsa in high school but at the time, resources were not really available online like they are now so I had to count on going to college to learn about animation. But fortujnately for you, there are thousands of website out there that can give you a head start. I would begin with determining whether you want to be a hand drawn animator or 3d animator. Based on that, you either start learning Maya, or start learning to draw. It won't hurt to draw a lot either way though. It will help with both 2d and 3d animation. Start a sketch book, draw everything, and do lots of life drawing. And then, start playing around with animation. Buy a cintiq or ipad pro and use one of the simple animation programs out there to animate some simple tests. And I think you'll find that this website will be an invaluable resource for you to network and learn more about animation. Share with other members and get feedback on your tests.
