Storytelling Poses Workshop

Information

  • Public (anyone can view and join)
  • Storytelling poses are the essential building blocks of a great scene in animation.  The Nine Old Men of Disney placed a huge amount of importance on these Key drawings. The aim  of this workshop is to post our poses, whether hand drawn or in CG, and workshop them to see how we can make them stronger.  Anyone can post their poses and also feel free to share your thoughts! A new word will be posted daily.

Pose of the day for Wednesday will be based on the word "SHOCKED"

There are some pretty classic "shocked" poses out there. If you do a google search you'll see Macaulty Culkin's Home Alone iconic pose on there. What other ways can we communicate this idea?

    Word for Tuesday is "LUCKY"!

So if you had to animate a scene where a character hit a lucky strike, or something lucky happened to that character, what pose would best communicate the idea that the character is "lucky". This is the main task of an animator! We strive to communicate with our key poses. Once the communication is figured out, our next task is to make it all look pretty haha.

    Word for Wednesday is "MISCHEVIOUS"!

I'll post this kind of early tonight so I can get some sleep!

So the question today is, what makes a pose read as "mischievous?" What are some story telling archetypal poses that you can use to your advantage when you're crafting a pose like this? What kind of variety can you find within that archetypal idea? The word mischievous, to me at least, is about someone getting some kind of satisfaction or enjoyment out of doing something bad haha. So...  more
